On the day the Giro d'Italia begins, it's only fitting we have a quick look at one of the true icons of bike design - the Cinelli Laser!
Originally created in 1980, the Laser was the most radical idea of its time and represented Cinelli's new total approach to bike design. The Laser pioneered the use of TIG welding in frames, thus eliminating the need for lugs, resulting in lighter, stiffer and more aero frames. Athletes using the Laser design over the following years, went on to win 28 gold medals at Olympic Games and World Championships events.
Moving on 30 or so years, and the original frame has evolved into the Laser Mia - the carbon jewel in Cinelli's crown. Each frame is hand built to order in Italy and goes through a sophisticated wrapping and post-curing technique to create a frame that weighs 890gms with every detail exuding precision and craftsmanship!
So you can now have the design of yesteryear, in a frame created using the latest 21st century technology and materials!!
